Welcome to Autism Routemap and thank you for visiting the website. We are a specialist service here to help develop social, communication and emotional management skills in autistic individuals and those with social communication difficulties.
Being able to relate to others is essential for a well-balanced and successful life. Good social, emotional and communication skills are necessary for all ages and areas. Whether at home, school, higher education or work, we need effective social skills to be able to participate fully.
School children function in a highly social environment every day. They have to work with their peers in the classroom, deal with playground skirmishes, respect social hierarchy and follow a myriad of unwritten social rules which are rarely explained to them. They do this in the context of a relentless social media storm which is very unforgiving of mistakes.
The battle doesn’t end in adulthood. Shared working spaces, meetings and social networking are often part of the job. Regardless of the field, employees typically need to be flexible people who can negotiate, compromise and work to tight deadlines.
Many individuals have problems acquiring the necessary social skills for every-day functioning. Sadly, this often overrides their technical abilities which may be extremely well-suited to the tasks they carry out on a daily basis.
Surprising little support is offered to children and adults in this situation. Thankfully however, these skills can be developed through direct teaching which depends on intellectual rather than intuitive understanding.
Autism Routemap provides face-to-face individual and group sessions as well as sessions via Skype / FaceTime for those who prefer this option. We also provide useful resources for parents, autistic individuals and professionals.
